Backaches, Omega 3 Oils and the Pizza Man I'm transitioning from moving slow to slow motion. It's an interesting feeling - like watching a movie segment which includes a slow motion sequence. This encourages the reflective state of mind even more. That helps work with the mediator in the world practice that I'm trying to do. Since the mind is less cluttered due to the lessened activity, it's easier to focus on paying attention to the present moment. I had a distressing lower backache last night on both sides but concentrated on the left. That kept me awake until 4:00 AM after watching "Bailey of the Rumpole" on PBS. I assumed this was because I'm lying around in bed so much. Fuhrman says he also thought that when he started supervising fasts. He's now come to the conclusion that it's one of the symptoms of the cleansing process since backaches disappear as the fast progresses. This morning I asked the doctor about omega 3 oils since I will be eating less fish than ever. In his book he points out that a small serving no more than once a week will not increase the toxic load in the body. Not to worry however since omega 3 comes through a variety of plant foods - most notably lettuce, broccoli, nuts and seeds. Since I eat broccoli almost everyday, I should be in good shape. Our group facilitator tells an amusing story about one of the fasters from the March group. A woman came with her mother to keep her company during the fast. The mother talked her into fasting for the daughter's general health since she didn't have a specific ailment that brought her here. She knocked on the daughter's door late one afternoon for a visit and noticed that she seemed a bit flustered. No sooner had she gotten in her room than the pizza man knocked on the door with a delivery. So much for getting people to fast who aren't ready of their own accord! |
