Strawberry Rhubarb Cobbler Sugar Attack I tried Wendys salad bar yesterday. They have stuffed baked potatoes so I got the plain potato to go with the salad. So that will be one way to get the starch he recommends. While I'm here at my brothers, I'll get plenty of starches because they do a lot of potatoes and rice. On the interstate through Parkersburg WV, I had a sugar attack. When I was four or five years old, I lived with an aunt there who had a garden in her backyard where she grew strawberries and rhubarb. The only vivid memory I have of my stay were her pies made from the same! I arrived at my brother's just as they were going out to eat at a friend's house. Guess what the dessert was: strawberry rhubarb cobbler. I couldn't resist and broke training. Of course I had already crashed earlier in the day at a rest stop where the first thing I smelled as I entered the building was fresh popcorn. That should be a snack that fits in the post fast diet as long as its unsalted and dry popped - this wasn't. I scoffed up that box of popcorn in no time flat. My rhythm on the road yesterday did seem to be moderated since I'd had no processed sugar for several days. There were a few yawns along the way but no drowsiness during an eleven hour 575 mile stint. Sugar does seem to make a difference in the energy ups and downs for the day. In fact after getting up at 4:00 and leaving at 6:30 AM, I arrived surprisingly fresh to go out to eat for the evening. If I were on the road today, that might be different story given the cobbler I had last night. |
